Congratulations to our Greening Sacred Spaces Halton-Peel chapter (with a special shout-out to Laura Irvine) who helped organize this year’s One Burlington Festival using the Green Rule as an organizing theme.
Participating faith communities shared how our well-being depends on the integrity of our relationships, both with one another and with the whole of the Earth, by making special efforts to reduce the environmental impact of the festival and contribute to eco-themed family activities. Among the many activities, they ordered all compostable foodware, gave away free vegetarian and only chicken burgers instead of beef, featured waste sorting/reduction education, used biodegradable soap at hand-washing stations, encouraged the use of reusable water bottles and walk/bike/bus to the festival, gave away eco-prizes, led a tree mural art activity and sugar scrub workshop for kids, and presented about their own particular faith's eco-spirituality or value to the environment on the stage throughout the festival. It was an incredible day!
