Location: Online over Zoom - A link will be emailed to you upon registration and before the event
Participants: All subscribers and supporters of MLSM Canada as well as Laudato Si’ Movement Animators, Laudato Si’ Circles and member organizations across Canada.
During the Season of Creation join MLSM Canada at our annual online NATIONAL GATHERING. We will facilitate sharing of action opportunities, resources and strategies as well as extend invitations to continue building community and collaboration from among participants. We invite you to share in the chat box any action initiatives where you are seeking collaboration.
We will also conduct a global Laudato Si’ Movement National Encounter. In breakout groups by region and national language, we will reflect on two key questions. In recording and reporting our responses to these questions we will directly contribute to the 10th Anniversary celebrations of the Laudato Si’ Movement in 2025, and add our dreams for the Movement to those of others around the world as part of the Movement’s strategic planning, also taking place in 2025.
Our hosts will be Agnes Richard, and Anna Johnson. Kathy Murtha will assist with an opening prayer, land acknowledgement and assist our spiritual centering. Each of the up to ten Encounter breakout rooms will be assisted by a regional facilitator and a note-taker.
Live interpretation between Canada’s official languages will be provided during the plenary sessions.
Agnes Richard is the Coordinator of Mouvement Laudato Si’ Movement – Canada, a nation-wide network of hundreds of Canadians focused on raising awareness about Pope Francis’ encyclical Laudato Si’: On Care for Our Common Home. She is proud of the Catholic Eco-Investment Accelerator Toolkit, a project of MLSM Canada that has gained global recognition. Agnes thrives on helping others connect their faith to the need to live sustainably and advocate for a healthy planet.
Anna Johnson is the North America Senior Programs Manager for the Laudato Si’ Movement, mobilizing passionate and talented Catholics across the continent for personal and systemic ecological transformation. In her global work, she continues to witness how the climate crisis exacerbates all injustice, driving her focus toward ecological justice. Anna has a BA in Peace Studies and Political Science from the University of Notre Dame, and an Executive Masters in Sustainability Leadership from Arizona State University. She is a member of the MLSM Canada Advisory Circle.
Kathy Murtha is a Retreat Coordinator and Facilitator at the Mary Ward Centre, a ministry of the Loretto Sisters in Toronto, Canada. She has been facilitating retreats for adults and young people for over 25 years. Kathy has an MA in theology and specializes in interfaith workshops and dialogue, women's history and spirituality, and contemplative practices. She is a member of the MLSM Canada Advisory Circle.
To volunteer as an Encounter breakout room facilitator or note-taker contact:
Agnes Richard [email protected]
A Facilitator will help root the breakout community in a spirit of prayer and reflection, open the space for sharing, keep time, and monitor conversation flow. The Note-taker will gather feedback and fill out a Report Back form for their breakout room and send the form to the National Gathering Secretary, Agnes Richard, [email protected].
