Our Greening Sacred Spaces Certification Program Gets an Update Just in Time for Earth Day!
This year’s Earth Day theme is ‘Invest in the Planet.’ FCG invites faith communities to do so by taking action right at home, within their places of worship. Start tracking your greening journey today with our newly updated Greening Sacred Spaces (GSS) Certification.
Developed in 2011, the GSS Certification program motivates, recognizes and celebrates those faith communities that demonstrate commitment to caring for the environment through action.
11 years on, we have revised the Certification’s checklist of criteria to be more reflective of our interfaith network’s diversity.
With 3 levels to aim for and complete–Light Green, Medium Green and Deep Green–each one has a corresponding list of possible actions in 8 categories:
- Spiritually and Worship
- Operations and Maintenance
- Environmental & Climate Justice
Whether you are just getting started or are ready for the next level of greening, the GSS Certification is an excellent way to engage your faith community in stewardship, reduce your environmental impact and showcase what you have accomplished together.
Let’s treat every day like it’s Earth Day. No matter what faith tradition or spiritual group you are a part of, Earth Day reminds us that we are all stewards and protectors of the environment, and we each have a role in working towards a more sustainable future for all.
