FCG's Interfaith Outdoor Greening Program is Going Strong - Last Chance for Audit in 2018!

Thank you to all the active faith communities who we have visited so far.  It's been beautiful to see your gardens and learn about your desires to Care for Creation with your outdoor spaces.

There is still time to participate in this program this year.  We are here to help, especially if you want to start a project for 2019 or beyond.  Let us know and we can provide advice, answer questions and point you to local initiatives, including funding support.  We are also working with Wild Pollinator Partners to help distribute free native flowers to plant around the city - let us know if you want some for your property!

There is still one formal Garden Audit available this year.  Book it today by emailing [email protected]!

Please share this email with others who you know have active gardening programs!

Our fall/winter offerings include on-site garden presentations tailored to your congregation's interests or needs (starting in October 2018).  These presentations will help educate and inspire your congregants!

We can provide a presentation for:

  • a simple overview of sustainable gardening in the larger context of your Care for Creation programming to inspire congregants

  • an outdoor greening presentation targeted to a youth group or other faith team that is interested in a social or environmental ministry

  • a public event organized by your congregants or garden volunteer team to inspire your neighbours to consider installing a butterfly or bee garden in their own yards!

Let us know your idea and we'd be happy to help out!  Check out all the details on our 2018-2019 Outdoor Greening initiative here.

Also let us know about any events where we can bring our FCG Booth to help inspire and educate in terms of sustainable options and initiatives.

Have a Great Gardening Season!

ARE YOU SEEKING A NEW TENANT?

Ottawa's A Company of Fools outdoor summer theatre company is looking for new office space and reached out to us, knowing that there could be an Ottawa faith community that is looking for a tenant.

Let them know if your faith community is currently looking for a tenant and/or if you know of one that has space available.  See contact details below.

Here is information about their company and the type of office space they are seeking:

- small professional theatre operation that does a summer series (50 performances in 35+ venues) - operating for 28 years

- looking for 500 sq ft of office space for year-round part-time staff of 3 - 4 (4 desks) - currently in 400 sq ft (shared with costumes/equipment)

- not looking for performance space - summer theatre performers are off-site personnel

- would prefer a fairly central location with some parking and on a bus route (staff includes both drivers and cyclists/transit-users). Central including Hintonburg, Westboro, Old Ottawa South, Glebe, New Edinburgh (they are in Little Italy now) - suburban would be quite difficult for non-drivers but they will consider less central locations if everything else lines up.

Company of Fools has a strong community/diversity mandate and would be very co-operative tenants - happy to work around situations/needs of landlord/property owners and other users of the facility, worship needs, etc. They can flex what they do and when (which they are currently doing as their office is in an active theatre with summer camps, etc).

SATURDAY AUGUST 25th

CAPTURE THE CARBON DAY

AT MOONEY'S BAY

On Saturday, August the 25th, Faith & the Common Good will be at the first ever CAPTURE THE CARBON DAY at Mooney's Bay from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm.  Come and learn about how vegetation placed strategically can catch the heat.

How can we reduce the heat in the ambient air?

By systematically using vegetation - absorbing carbon dioxide, improving the quality of our air, reducing our carbon footprint and lowering local temperatures.

By building green roofs and living walls, planting trees, having in place living sculptures and expanding green spaces in the city as much as possible.

The Carbon Capture Day event will capture your imagination of what is possible and what is necessary, all the while entertaining children, informing the public and focusing the world on how to capture HEAT.
